This focused course is designed to help students prepare for the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) First Round, developing the problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking needed to tackle challenging, unfamiliar questions with confidence. Through a combination of targeted instruction, guided problem-solving and competition-style questions, students will explore the key techniques and strategies that can make the difference in a timed mathematical challenge.
Sessions will focus on number, algebra, geometry, patterns, logic and mathematical reasoning, with particular attention to recognising efficient approaches and avoiding common pitfalls. Students will work through progressively challenging problems under timed conditions, with detailed explanations and feedback to strengthen their reasoning, accuracy and ability to approach unfamiliar questions independently.
Course Outcomes
✅ Stronger mathematical problem-solving and reasoning skills
✅ Greater confidence tackling unfamiliar competition-style questions
✅ Improved speed, accuracy and strategic thinking
✅ Targeted preparation for the IMC First Round
Please note: The October and December IMC courses cover different content, so students can attend both without repeating the same material.
Dates: 26-30 October
Time: 14:00 – 16:30
