This course builds on the Year 4 programme, although students do not need to have completed the Year 4 course in order to take part. The content is designed to develop excellence in creative writing, with material pitched at a 13+ level in order to help students stand out at 11+.
The main areas of study are descriptive and narrative writing, although students will also explore autobiographical and persuasive writing.
Students will learn how to plan and write short stories under timed conditions, while developing a more sophisticated approach to characterisation, voice and narrative control. Particular emphasis is placed on creating depth of character rather than relying solely on plot, allowing students to demonstrate maturity, subtlety and complexity in their writing. Attention will be paid to marking criteria and excellent samples of student work.
Dates: 24-28 August, (in-person) Monday to Friday
Time: 14:00 – 17:00
Location: Shine Office, Fulham.Works, Fulham Broadway Centre, SW6 1BY
